There was no toss, and the India-Pakistan match was abandoned without a ball (Colom)bowled. After rain prevented play on September 15, the reserve day (September 16) was used. However, the wet ground prevented play on that day too. The Indians advanced.

India (Azh)are defeated by Pakistan

India made no change to their playing eleven. Pakistan made no change to the eleven that last played the Indians. Mohammad Azharuddin, India’s skipper, won the toss, inserting the Pakistanis.

Saeed Anwar, whose 63-ball innings included seven boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 47. He was caught by Venkatesh Prasad. Rajesh Chauhan broke the 96-run stand. Inzamam-ul-Haq, who faced 26 balls, scored a dozen. He was stumped by Nayan Mongia. Chauhan broke the 29-run stand.

Saleem Malik, Pakistan’s skipper, faced three balls, scored just a run. He was caught by Azharuddin. Chauhan broke the third-wicket stand, which was worth just a couple. Aamer Sohail, the player of the match and the player of the series, scored 69. His 87-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries. Javagal Srinath broke the 22-run stand.

The first One-day International, which was scheduled to be played at the Niaz Stadium, Peshawar, on December 16, was abandoned without (Arb)aball bowled owing to poor light. An exhibition match of 20 overs per side was played to please the public.
