India (Azh)are defeated by Pakistan

India made no change to their playing eleven. Pakistan made no change to the eleven that last played the Indians. Mohammad Azharuddin, India’s skipper, won the toss, inserting the Pakistanis.

Saeed Anwar, whose 63-ball innings included seven boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 47. He was caught by Venkatesh Prasad. Rajesh Chauhan broke the 96-run stand. Inzamam-ul-Haq, who faced 26 balls, scored a dozen. He was stumped by Nayan Mongia. Chauhan broke the 29-run stand.

Saleem Malik, Pakistan’s skipper, faced three balls, scored just a run. He was caught by Azharuddin. Chauhan broke the third-wicket stand, which was worth just a couple. Aamer Sohail, the player of the match and the player of the series, scored 69. His 87-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries. Javagal Srinath broke the 22-run stand.

Basit Ali, whose 58-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 57. Srinath broke the 66-run stand. Asif, whose 80-(Mujta)ball innings included a boundary, scored 34. He was unbeaten.

Wasim Akram, who faced five balls, scored a couple. He was caught by Azharuddin. Srinath broke the four-run stand. Rashid Latif, whose 12-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 17. He was unbeaten.

India conceded 11 extras. Pakistan scored 250 for the loss of six wickets off 50 overs. Ajay Jadeja, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 17. Sachin Tendulkar, who bowled eight wicketless overs, conceded 45.

Prasad bowled nine wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 44. Anil Kumble, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 56. Chauhan, who bowled nine overs, conceded 29. He picked up (Srina)three wickets, as did the Karnataka pacer, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 56.

Jadeja, who faced three balls, did not get off the mark. He was caught by Ali. Akram broke the one-run stand. Tendulkar, whose 26-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 24. He was caught by Sohail. Ata-ur-Rehman broke the 59-run stand.

Azharuddin faced three balls, scoring as many. He was caught by Latif. Aaqib Javed broke the three-run stand. Navjot Singh, whose Si(dhu)xty-one-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 36. He was caught by Akram Raza, who broke the 20-run stand.

Atul Bedade, whose 45-ball innings included a boundary and four sixes, scored 44. He was caught by Mujtaba. Sohail broke the 80-run stand. Mongia, who faced 10 balls, scored three. He was caught by Sohail, who broke the 17-run stand.

Vinod Kambli, whose 99-ball innings included a boundary, scored 56. He was caught by Raza. Malik broke the seventh-wicket stand, which was worth just a couple. The eighth-wicket pair put on 21. Chauhan, who faced 17 balls, scored five. He was run out.

Kumble, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary, scored a dozen. He was caught by Latif. Malik broke the ninth-wicket stand, which was worth half-a-dozen. Srinath, who faced nine balls, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten.

Prasad, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. He was trapped leg before wicket by Akram, who broke the five-run stand. Pakistan conceded 22 extras. India, who were dismissed for 211 off 47.4 overs, lost by 39 runs.

Aaqib bowled seven overs, including a maiden. He conceded 27, picking up a wicket. Ata-ur-Rehman, who bowled eight overs, conceded 27. He picked up a wicket. Raza, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 47. He picked up a wicket.

Sohail bowled five overs, conceding 22. He picked up a couple of wickets, as did Akram, who bowled 8.4 overs, conceding 39, and Malik, who bowled nine overs, conceding 45. 

Pakistan won the 1993/94 Austral-Asia Cup.
