India win; Pakistan are D(hon)isappointed

While India made no changes to their playing eleven, Pakistan (Moham)made five changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Imran Nazir, Younis Khan, Yousuf, Naved-ul-Hasan and Umar Gul made way for Salman Butt, Imran Farhat, Umar Amin, Abdul Razzaq and Shoaib Akhtar.

On winning the toss, Shahid Afridi, Pakistan’s skipper, chose to bat.

The second Powerplay of Pakistan’s innings was between the 11^th and the 15^th over. Their openers scored 50 off 11.2 overs (70 balls). India had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. While Butt's contribution to the partnership was 25, Farhat's contribution to it was 19.

Farhat, whose 46-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 25. Ninety-nine legal balls into the match, he was caught by Virender Sehwag. Harbhajan Singh broke the 71-run partnership.

It was at that point that the first drinks break was taken. Butt was batting on 40. His half-century – which included eight boundaries – came off 62 balls.

Thirty-six overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. Pakistan had conceded 187 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Umar Akmal was batting on 16, Afridi was batting on 19.

The youngest of the Akmal brothers, whose 26-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 21. Twenty-nine balls after Amin's dismissal, he was caught by Dhoni. Jadeja broke the 37-run stand.
