India aVeng(sarkar)e loss to Pakistan

It was a 45-overs-a-side match. India made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Kiran More and Narendra Hirwani made way for Ajay Sharma and Chandrakant Pandit. Pakistan made five changes to the team that last played the Indians – Mudassar Nazar, Javed Miandad, Manzoor Elahi and the Saleems (Yousuf and Jaffar) made way for Moin-ul-Atiq, Aamer Malik, Shoaib Mohammad, Naved Anjum and Haafiz Shahid.

On winning the toss, Dilip Vengsarkar, the Indian skipper, (Colon)elected to field. Rameez Raja, whose 53-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 33. He was trapped leg before wicket by Arshad Ayub, who broke the 62-run stand. Moin, whose 64-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 38. Maninder Singh broke the 29-run partnership.

Saleem Malik, whose 30-ball innings included a boundary, scored 19. He was trapped leg before wicket by Singh, who broke the third-wicket stand, which was worth half-a-dozen. Aamer, who faced 18 balls, scored just a couple. He was trapped leg before wicket by Ayub, who broke the 10-run stand.

Mohammad, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Ayub broke the five-run stand. Anjum wasn’t in seventh heaven, because he scored just a run. He was trapped leg before wicket by Ayub, who broke the four-run stand. Wasim Akram, who faced seven balls, scored four. Ayub broke the eight-run stand.

Dev bowled 6.2 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 16, picking up a couple of wickets. Singh bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceding 25, picking up two wickets. Ayub, who was adjudged the player of the match, bowled nine overs, conceding 21. He picked up five scalps.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, who faced 17 balls, scored three. Anjum broke the 13-run stand. Srikkanth, whose 44-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 23. Qadir broke the 63-run stand. Amarnath, whose 122-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, scored 74. He was unbeaten.

The third-wicket pair didn’t open its account. Vengsarkar, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. He was trapped leg before wicket by Qadir. Mohammad Azharuddin, who faced 28 balls, scored 15. He was trapped leg before wicket by Akram, who faced the 34-run stand.

Dev, who faced a dozen balls, scored a couple. He was stumped by Aamer. Qadir broke the three-run stand. Ajay faced four balls, scoring a couple. Akram broke the three-run stand. Pandit, who faced nine balls, scored five. He was unbeaten.

Pakistan conceded 19 extras. India scored 143 for the loss of six wickets off 40.4 overs, winning by four wickets with 26 balls to spare. Mohammad and Saleem bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former conceded half-a-dozen, the latter conceded five. Shahid, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 17.

Tauseef, who bowled nine wicketless overs, conceded 22. Anjum, who bowled 8.4 overs, conceded 30. He picked up a wicket. Akram, who bowled nine overs, conceded 29. He picked up a couple of wickets. Qadir bowled nine overs, including three maidens. He conceded 27, picking up three scalps.
