Pakistan knock Ganguly-led India out

India made a couple of Ch(opr)anges to their playing eleven – Sunil Joshi and Nikhil made way for Nayan Mongia and One-day International debutant Amit Bhandari. Pakistan made three changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Younis Khan, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar made way for Saeed Anwar, Azhar Mahmood and Mohammad Akram.

On winning the toss, Moin Khan, Pakistan’s skipper, chose to bat. Their 50 came off 7.3 overs in 36 minutes. Anwar, whose 35-ball innings included eight boundaries, scored 43. Seventy-four balls into the match, he was caught by Thirunavukkarasu Kumaran. Anil Kumble broke the run-a-ball stand.

The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Nazir, whose 44-ball I(mra)nnings included half-a-dozen boundaries, scored 29. Three balls later, he was caught by Ajit Agarkar off the bowling of Kumble.

Mohammad Yousuf, the player of the match, scored 100. His 112-ball innings included nine boundaries and a six. His half-century, which came off 92 balls, included three boundaries. He was unbeaten. His century came in 171 minutes.

Inzamam-ul-Haq, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. A couple of balls later, Agarkar broke the one-run stand. Pakistan’s 100 came off 19.4 overs in 97 minutes. Shahid Afridi, whose 26-ball (Sach)innings included a boundary and a six, scored 21. Forty-three balls later, he was caught by Tendulkar. Kumble broke the 28-run stand.

Pakistan’s 150 came off 30.5 overs in 146 minutes. Moin, whose 47-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 46. A hundred and nine balls later, he was caught by Mongia. Agarkar broke the 92-run partnership.

Pakistan’s 200 came off 39.2 overs in 186 minutes. Abdul Razzaq, whose 23-ball innings included a boundary, scored 21. Forty-one balls later, he was caught by Agarkar. Bhandari broke the 51-run partnership.

Pakistan’s 250 came off 46.4 overs in 186 minutes. Wasim Akram, who was celebrating his 34th birthday, faced 11 balls, scoring nine. Twenty-two balls later, he was caught by Rahul Dravid. Bhandari broke the 31-run stand. Mahmood, whose four-ball innings included a six, scored nine. He was unbeaten.

India conceded 16 extras. Pakistan scored 277 for the loss of seven wickets off 50 overs. Kumaran and Tendulkar bowled 10 wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 86, the latter conceded 41.

Bhandari and Agarkar bowled 10 overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 75, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 47. Kumble bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 43, picking up three scalps.

The Indians were fined a couple of overs for a slow over rate. Sourav Ganguly, India’s skipper, scored eight. His 18-ball innings included a boundary. Twenty-six balls, he was caught by Mohammad Akram. Wasim broke the run-a-ball stand.

India’s 50 came off 7.4 overs in 39 minutes. Dravid, whose 32-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 32. Forty-six balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Razzaq, who broke the 42-run partnership.

Mohammad Azharuddin, who faced three balls, scored a run. Seven balls later, he was caught by Nazir. Razzaq broke the six-run stand. Tendulkar, whose 30-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 25. Five balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Razzaq, who broke the one-run stand.

India’s 100 came off 21.1 overs in 114 minutes. The fifth-wicket pair put on 49. Singh, whose 38-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 21. Eighty-two balls later, Mahmood ran him out.

Mongia, who faced 14 balls, scored four. Twenty-seven balls later, he was caught by Afridi. Arshad Khan broke the 18-run stand. India’s 150 came off 34.2 overs in 176 minutes. Kumble, who faced 19 balls, scored 10. Thirty-nine balls later, he was stumped by Moin. Arshad broke the 41-run stand.

India’s 200 came off 40.1 overs in 244 minutes. Agarkar, whose 25-ball innings included a boundary, scored 21. Thirty-seven balls later, Razzaq broke the 52-run partnership. The ninth-wicket pair put on 14. Kumaran, who faced eight balls, scored four. Fourteen balls later, Nazir ran him out.

Ajay Jadeja, whose 103-ball innings included eight boundaries and four sixes, scored 93. Three balls later, he was stumped by Moin. Nazir broke the two-run stand. Bhandari, who didn’t faced a ball, was unbeaten.

Pakistan conceded 38 extras. India, who were dismissed for 251 off 47.4 overs, lost by 44 runs. Mahmood, who bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs, conceded 20. Mohammad Akram bowled seven wicketless overs, conceding 39. Afridi bowled nine wicketless overs, conceding 55.

Nazir bowled four balls, conceding three. He picked up a wicket, as did Akram, who faced seven overs, conceded 30. Arshad bowled 10 overs, conceding 59. He picked up two wickets. Razzaq bowled eight overs, conceding 29. He picked up four scalps.

It was India’s last limited-overs match of the 2000 season. Azharuddin, Jadeja, Mongia and Kumaran never represented them again.

India are (Soura)vanquished by Pakistan

Neither India nor Pakistan made any changes to their playing elevens. On winning the toss, Moin Khan, the latter's skipper, chose to bat. Nazir, whose 18-ball I(mra)nnings included a boundary, scored 11. Five balls into the match, he was caught by Anil Kumble. Ajit Agarkar broke the 20-run stand.

Pakistan’s 50 came off 12.1 overs. Shahid Afridi, whose 41-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 28. Forty-six (Sa)balls later, he was stumped by Karim. Kumble broke the 35-run stand.

Pakistan’s 100 came off 22.1 overs. Younis Khan, whose 66-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 44. Ninety-three ballS(uni)later, he was caught by Mohammad Azharuddin. Joshi broke the 66-run partnership.

Inzamam-ul-Haq, one of the two players of the match, scored 121. His 113-ball innings included nine boundaries and five sixes. He was unbeaten, as was Mohammad Yousuf, who scored 56. His 64-ball innings included five boundaries and a six.

While the former's century, which included seven boundaries and all the sixes, came off 97 balls, the latter’s 50, which included four boundaries and the six, came off 60 balls.

India conceded a dozen extras. Pakistan scored 272 for the loss of three wickets off 50 overs. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, India’s skipper, bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former conceded 11, the latter conceded four. Venkatesh Prasad, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 63.

Singh bowled 10 wicketless overs, (Rob)including a maiden. He conceded 34. Kumble, who bowled nine overs, conceded 66. He picked up a wicket. Joshi bowled nine overs, including a couple of maidens. Although Ganguly's 12-ball innings included a boundary, he had no reason to be in seventh heaven – four overs into the chase, he was caught by Waqar Younis, the other player of the match, who broke the 12-run stand. Tendulkar, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Five balls later, Wasim Akram broke the eight-run stand.

Joshi, who faced eight balls, scored three. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Moin. Waqar broke the five-run stand. Rahul Dravid, whose 46-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 29. Seventy balls later, he was caught by Moin. Shoaib Akhtar broke the 38-run stand.

Nazir, whose 51-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, scored 43. Seventy-seven ballS(uni)later, Joshi broke the 57-run partnership. Pakistan’s 100 came off the 27th over.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 46. Mohammad Yousuf, whose 36-ball innings included a boundary, scored 17. Seventy-eight (Sa)balls later, Karim ran him out.
