The Indians (Azh)are not Pa(k)i(sta)ned

India made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Atul Wassan and Saradindu Mukherjee made way for (Vin)ODI debutants Kambli and Javagal Srinath.

Pakistan made four changes to the eleven that last played their neighbours – Saeed Anwar, Saleem Yousuf, Abdul Qadir and Sajjad Akbar made way for Sajid Ali, Rameez Raja, Moin Khan and Akram Raza.

Mohammad Azharuddin, India’s skipper, chose to bat on winning the toss. India’s openers put on 44. Ravi, whose S(hastr)ixty-three-ball innings included a boundary, scored 22. He was run out.

Navjot Singh, whose Si(dhu)xty-six-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 38. Wasim Akram broke the 49-run stand. Azharuddin, whose 36-ball innings included a boundary, scored 32. Waqar Younis broke the 56-run stand.

Sanjay Manjrekar, the player of the match, scored 72. His 93-ball innings included three boundaries. He was trapped leg before wicket by Younis, who broke the 44-run stand. Tendulkar, whose 40-ball (Sach)innings included five boundaries, scored 52. He was unbeaten, as was Kapil Dev, who faced nine balls, scoring 10.

Pakistan conceded a dozen extras. India scored 238 for the loss of four wickets off 50 overs. Akram Raza and Imran Khan, Pakistan’s captain, bowled 10 wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 45, the latter conceded 44.

Aaqib Javed bowled 10 wicketless overs, including three maidens. He conceded 38. Akram, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 42. He picked up a wicket. Younis, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 65. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Ali, whose nine-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. He was caught by Kiran More. Manoj broke the eight-run P(rabhak)artnership. The second-wicket pair put on 76. Raja, whose 74-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 35. He was run out.

Javed Miandad, whose 94-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 61. He was trapped leg before wicket by Venkatapathy Raju, who broke the five-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Imran, whose faced half-a-dozen balls, scored just a run. He was dismissed by Prabhakar. Ijaz Ahmed, who faced seven balls, scored four. He was caught by Raju, who broke the 10-run stand.

Akram, who faced 21 balls, scored 14. Srinath broke the 16-run stand. Moin, who faced 26 balls, scored 17. He was unbeaten. Raza, who faced three balls, didn’t open his account. He was caught by Azharuddin. Dev broke the one-run stand.

Younis, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Prabhakar broke the 10-run stand. Aaqib, who faced 10 balls, scored four. Prabhakar broke the 12-run stand.

India conceded a dozen extras. The Pakistanis, who were bundled out for 178 off 44.4 overs, lost by 60 runs. Dev bowled eight overs, conceding 30. He picked up a scalp, as did Srinath, who bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 31.

Shastri bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 53, picking up a scalp. Raju bowled 10 overs, conceding 39. He picked up two scalps. Prabhakar bowled 7.4 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 25, picking up four scalps.

India (Azh)are eliminated by Pakistan

India made just one change to their playing eleven – Woorkeri Raman made way for Sanjay Manjrekar. Pakistan made a couple of changes to the team that last played the Indians – Shoaib Mohammad and Rameez Raja made way for Ijaz Ahmed and One-day International debutant Sajjad Akbar. On winning the toss, Mohammad Azharuddin, India’s skipper, inserted the Pakistanis.

Saeed Anwar, whose 32-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, scored 37. He was caught by Kapil Dev. Ravi Shastri broke the 73-run stand. Saleem Malik, who faced 17 balls, wasn’t in seventh heaven. Shastri broke the 17-run stand. Saleem Yousuf, whose 90-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 62. He was stumped by Kiran More. Anil Kumble broke the 40-run stand.

Khan, Pakistan’s skipper, scored 18. His 29-ball I(mra)nnings included a boundary. He was caught by More. Manoj broke the 36-run P(rabhak)artnership. Wasim Akram, whose 12-ball innings included a six, scored 11. He was trapped leg before wicket by Sanjeev Sharma, who broke the fourth-wicket stand, which was worth a dozen. The sixth-wicket pair put on 15. Javed Miandad, who faced 74 balls, scored 37. He was run out.

Khan bowled three overs, conceding 17. He picked up a wicket, as did Akram, who bowled 8.3 overs. He conceded 28. Akbar bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 45, picking up a couple of scalps. Younis, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 42. He picked up four scalps.

While the Pakistanis advanced to the semi-finals (and eventually won the tournament), the Indians were eliminated.

Rameez Raja, whose 32-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 24. He was caught by Maninder Singh. Ravi Shastri broke the 45-run stand. The second-wicket pair put on a dozen. Saeed Anwar, who faced 11 balls, wasn’t in seventh heaven. He was run out. The third-wicket put on 11. Shoaib Mohammad, who faced 63 balls, scored 26. He was run out.

Wasim Akram, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Singh broke the four-run stand. Saleem Malik, who faced 43 balls, scored 29. He was caught by Razdan. Salil Ankola broke the 34-run stand. It was a 40-overs-a-side match. The Indians made a Kapil of changes to their playing eleven – Sachin Tendulkar and Vivek Razdan made way for Sanjay Manjrekar and Dev. The Pakistanis (Moham)made just one change to theirs – Mansoor Akhtar made way for Shoaib.

Krishnamachari Srikkanth, India’s skipper, won the toss, inserting the hosts. The openers didn’t get off the mark. Rameez Raja, who faced five balls, didn’t open his account. He was trapped leg before wicket by Manoj Prabhakar. Mohammad faced 32 balls, scoring 13. He was unbeaten.

The second-wicket pair didn’t open its account. Saleem Malik, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Prabhakar dismissed him. Javed Miandad, who faced 20 balls, scored just a couple. He was trapped leg before wicket by Prabhakar, who broke the 11-run stand. Imran Khan, Pakistan’s skipper, faced 28 balls, scoring nine. He was unbeaten.

India conceded four extras. Pakistan scored 28 for the loss of three wickets off 14,3 overs. Salil Ankola, who bowled 2.3 overs, wasn’t in seventh heaven, because he was wicketless, as was Dev, who bowled seven overs, including a maiden. He conceded 14. The match was abandoned due to crowd disruption. Pakistan led the three-match series 1-0.

The first One-day International, which was scheduled to be played at the Niaz Stadium, Peshawar, on December 16, was abandoned without (Arb)aball bowled owing to poor light. An exhibition match of 20 overs per side was played to please the public.

The second match was a 16-0vers-a-side match. India made seven Ch(et)anges to its playing eleven – Mohinder Amarnath, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sharma, Ajay Sharma, Kapil Dev, Sanjay Manjrekar and Arshad Ayub (Moham)made way for Navjot Singh Sidhu, Azharuddin, Ravi Shastri, Maninder Singh and three One-day International debutants – Sachin Tendulkar, Vivek Razdan and Salil Ankola.

Pakistan made four changes to theirs – Aamer Malik, Ijaz Ahmed, Akram Raza and Mushtaq Ahmed made way for Mansoor Akhtar, Saeed Anwar, Zulqarnain and Waqar Younis.

Aamer, whose 83-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 51. He was caught by Ajay Sharma. Mohinder Amarnath broke the 97-run stand. Saleem Malik, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. He was caught by Srikkanth. Ajay broke the 28-run stand. Javed Miandad faced 23 balls, scoring 13. He was trapped leg before wicket by Arshad Ayub, who broke the 40-run stand.

The fourth-wicket pair failed to open its account. Raja, whose 90-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 77. He was caught by Kapil Dev off the bowling of Srikkanth.
