India are Devanquished; Pakistan (Ka)p(i)leased

It was the last match between the two sub-continental nations before the Reliance World Cup, which they were co-hosting. Pakistan made just one to theirs – the omission of Mohsin Khan (who was married to Hindi film actress Reena Roy and debuted as an actor in a Hindi film that released in 1989, and was, interestingly, titled Batwara) paved the way for Sajid Ali to make his One-day International debut.

It was a 40-overs-a-side match. Zaheer Abbas, Pakistan’s skipper, inserted India, led for the first (and only) time by Mohinder Amarnath, on winning the toss.

Pakistan conceded 19 extras. India scored 240 for the loss of three wickets off 40 overs. Naved Anjum bowled a wicketless over, conceding 10. 

Tahir Naqqash, Rashid Khan and Manzoor Elahi bowled eight wicketless overs apiece. They conceded 55, 43 and 24, respectively. Elahi's spell included three maidens.

Ahmed bowled seven overs, conceding 42. He picked up a wicket. Mudassar bowled eight overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 27 and picked up a couple of scalps.

Pakistan didn’t bat, as the match was halted, and the rest of the tour was called off, due to the assassination of India’s prime minister, Indira Gandhi. 

The hosts won the three-match series (which became a two-match series) 1-0*.

It was the last limited-overs international appearance of Parkar and Balvinder Singh Sandhu.

India'S(uni)losing streak continues in Pakistan

India made four changes to the eleven that lost the fifth One-day International to Australia for the opening match of the series in Pakistan. Ghulam Parkar, Kirti Azad, Manoj Prabhakar and Ashok Patel were replaced by Sandeep Patil, Mohinder Amarnath, Chetan Sharma and Maninder Singh.
Pakistan, keen to avenge the Rothmans Asia Cup defeat they suffered at India's hands six months prior to this match, made seven changes to their eleven from that match – Saleem Malik, Qasim Umar, Shahid Mahboob, Abdul Qadir, Sarfraz Nawaz, Anil Dalpat and Azeem Hafeez were excluded.
While Manzoor Elahi was making his One-day International debut, the returnees were Javed Miandad, Naved Anjum, Ashraf Ali, Tahir Naqqash, Rashid Khan and Tauseef Ahmed. It was a 40-overs-a-side match. On winning the toss, Sunil Gavaskar, India's skipper, inserted the hosts.

While India made no changes to the eleven that played the match against Sri Lanka, Pakistan made six changes to the eleven that played the last Indo-Pak encounter. Javed Miandad, the Wasims (Raja and Bari), Tahir Naqqash, Jalal-ud-Din and Mohammad Nazir made way for Saadat Ali, Qasim Umar, Shahid Mahboob, Abdul Qadir, Sarfraz Nawaz and Anil Dalpat.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, India played their 50th One-day International. While they fielded an unchanged eleven, the Pakistanis made one change to theirs – Qasim Umar was replaced by Saleem Malik. Speaking of fielded, that’s what the hosts did when Dev, their Kap(il)tain, won the toss. It was a 46-overs-a-side match.
