India host Pakistan, aren’t (Shas)triumphant

It was a 45-overs-a-side match. India made just one Ch(et)ange to the eleven that last played Pakistan – Kapil Dev made way for Sharma. This gave Ravi Shastri the opportunity to make his debut as India’s One-day International skipper. Pakistan made three changes to the team that last played the Indians – Rameez Raja, Shoaib Mohammad and Asif Mujtaba made way for Rizwan-uz-Zaman, Abdul Qadir and Saleem Malik.

Khan, Pakistan’s skipper, I(mra)nserted the hosts on winning the toss. Krishnamachari Srikkanth faced 14 balls, scoring a couple. Khan broke the 10-run stand. Sunil Gavaskar scored 10. His 22-ball innings included a boundary. He was caught by Saleem Yousuf. Khan broke the second-wicket stand, which was worth nine. Dilip Vengsarkar faced 25 balls, scoring five. Srikkanth, who bowled one over, conceded 10. He picked up a wicket. Sharma bowled seven overs, including a maiden. He conceded 25, picking up a wicket. Singh bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 31, picking up a wicket. Shastri bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 37, picking up three wickets.
