The Pakistanis beaT(endulk)arch-rivals Indians again

India made a couple of Ch(opr)anges to their playing eleven – Devang Gandhi and Nikhil made way for Jacob Martin and Debasis Mohanty. Incidentally, Chopra was their twelfth man. Pakistan made no changes to the eleven that last played the Indians. Azhar Mahmood was their twelfth man.

On winning the toss, Tendulkar, India’s skipper, (Sach)inserted the Pakistanis. Shahid Afridi, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored a dozen. Thirty-four balls later, he was caught by Tendulkar. Mohanty broke the 22-run stand. Pakistan’s 50 came off 51 balls in 71 minutes.

Saeed Anwar, whose 66-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 43. Sixty-four balls later, he was caught by Sameer Dighe. Sourav Ganguly broke the 60-run partnership. Inzamam-ul-Haq, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Twenty-five balls later, he was caught by Dighe. Ganguly broke the 14-run stand.

Pakistan’s 100 came off 166 balls in 118 minutes, and their 150 came off 215 balls in 156 minutes. Ijaz Ahmed, whose 90-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 67. Sixty-seven balls later, Venkatesh Prasad broke the 60-run partnership.

He put on 50 off 78 balls with Anwar in 58 minutes. His 50, which came off 74 balls in 111 minutes, included the three boundaries and the six.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Moin Khan, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Dighe off the bowling of Prasad. Pakistan’s 200 came off 262 balls in 191 minutes.

Mohammad Yousuf, whose 52-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 45. Fifty-six balls later, he was caught by Mohanty. Anil Kumble broke the 67-run partnership. He put on 50 off 59 balls with Ahmed in 44 minutes.

Abdul Razzaq, the player of the match, scored 70. His 52-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes. He was unbeaten. His 50, which came off 36 balls in 43 minutes, included the four boundaries and a six. He put on 50 off 44 balls with Yousuf in 31 minutes.

Wasim Akram, Pakistan’s skipper, faced five balls, scoring a couple. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Dighe. Mohanty broke the 20-run partnership. Pakistan’s 250 came off 297 balls in 213 minutes. Waqar Younis, who faced three balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.

India conceded 14 extras. Pakistan conceded 262 for the loss of seven wickets off 50 overs. Tendulkar, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded half-a-dozen. Robin Singh, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 10. Javagal Srinath, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 55.

Kumble bowled 10 overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 25, picking up a wicket.  Ganguly, who bowled eight overs, conceded 43. He picked up a couple of wickets. Mohanty, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 76. He picked up a couple of wickets. Prasad, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 41. He picked up a couple of scalps.

India were fined a couple of overs for a slow over rate. Their 50 came off 62 balls in 45 minutes. Ganguly, whose 55-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 43. A hundred and ten balls into the chase, he was caught by Afridi. Razzaq broke the 99-run partnership.

India’s 100 came off 113 balls in 86 minutes. V V S Laxman, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored seven. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Khan. Razzaq broke the 12-run stand.

India’s 150 came off 174 balls in 132 minutes. Rahul Dravid, whose 31-ball innings included a boundary, scored 15. Nine overs later, he was trapped leg before by Akram. Tendulkar, whose 103-ball innings included 10 boundaries, scored 93. His 50, which came off 51 balls in 68 minutes, included eight boundaries. Thirty-one balls later, Razzaq broke the 19-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 16. Martin, whose 27-ball innings, scored 16. Twenty-four balls later, the substitute, Shoaib Malik, ran him out. Singh, who faced a dozen balls, scored a couple. Five balls later, he was caught by Shoaib Akhtar, who broke the one-run stand.

India’s 200 came off 248 balls in 186 minutes. Dighe, who faced 20 balls, scored 11. He was unbeaten. Kumble, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. Twenty-one balls later, Razzaq broke the 25-run stand. Srinath, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. A couple of balls later, Razzaq broke the two-run stand.

Prasad had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored five. Fifteen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Akram, who broke the nine-run stand. The last-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Mohanty, who faced three balls, didn’t open his account. Three balls later, he was dismissed by Akram.

Pakistan conceded 22 extras. India, who were dismissed for 230 off 46.5 overs, lost by 32 runs. Younis bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceding 19. Afridi bowled seven wicketless overs, conceding 33. Saqlain Mushtaq bowled eight wicketless overs, conceding 42.

Akhtar bowled 10 overs, conceding 49. He picked up a wicket. Akram bowled 9.5 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 34, picking up three wickets. Razzaq bowled 10 overs, conceding 48. He picked up five scalps.
