Pakistan beat India convincingly agA(zharudd)in

India made a change to their playing eleven – Sanjay Raul made way for Sourav Ganguly. Pakistan made a change to theirs as well – Abdul Razzaq made way for Saqlain Mushtaq. On winning the toss, Mohammad Azharuddin, India’s skipper, inserted the Pakistanis.

Shahid, who faced a couple of balls, (Afri)didn’t get off the mark. Eight dot balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Ajit Agarkar. Aamer, Pakistan’s skipper, scored a dozen. HiS(rina)thirty-three-ball innings included a boundary. Fifty-seven ballS(ohai)later, Javagal broke the 42-run stand.

Saeed Anwar, whose 81-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 58. A hundred and thirteen balls alter, Ganguly broke the 85-run partnership. Inzamam-ul-Haq, the player of the match, scored 81. His 112-ball innings included nine boundaries and a six. Eighty-eight boundaries later, Agarkar broke the 76-run partnership.

Saleem Malik, whose 47-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 37. (Pras)Adozen balls later, Venkatesh broke the 11-run stand. Ijaz Ahmed, whose 21-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 43. He was unbeaten, as was Moin Khan, who faced seven balls, scoring four.

India conceded 22 extras. Pakistan scored 257 for the loss of five wickets off 50 overs. Sunil Joshi, who bowled four overs, conceded 16. He was wicketless, as was Hrishikesh Kanitkar, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceding 31.

Srinath (whose spell included a couple of maidens), Prasad and Ganguly (whose spell included a maiden) bowled 10 overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. They conceded 52, 51 and 38, respectively. Agarkar bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 59, picking up a couple of scalps.

India’s openers put on 43. Ganguly, whose 36-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 23. Fifty-eight balls into the chase, Mushtaq ran him out. Navjot Sigh Sidhu, whose 27-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 15. A couple of balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Aaqib Javed, who broke the one-run stand.

Azharuddin, who faced five balls, scored a run. Thirteen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Javed, who broke the two-run stand. Rahul Dravid, who faced 30 balls, scored nine. Thirty-six balls later, Mohammad Zahid broke the 16-run stand.

Kanitkar, who faced 19 balls, scored half-a-dozen. Thirty balls later, he was caught by Ahmed. Afridi broke the 13-run stand. Jatin Paranjpe, who faced 16 balls, scored just a run. Twenty balls later, he was caught by Malik. Mushtaq broke the three-run stand. He never represented India again.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 34. Agarkar, whose 22-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. Forty-eight balls later, Ahmed ran him out. Joshi, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Malik. Zahid broke the 10-run stand.

Nayan Mongia, whose 68-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 38. Thirty balls later, he was caught by Sohail. Malik broke the 18-run stand. Srinath, whose 40-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, scored 43. Thirty balls later, he was caught by Mushtaq. Sohail broke the 40-run stand.

Prasad, who faced 10 balls, scored three. He was unbeaten. Pakistan conceded 22 extras. India, who were dismissed for 180 off 46.2 overs, lost by 77 runs. Mahmood bowled 10 wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 35.

Sohail, who bowled 2.2 overs, conceded 11. He picked up a wicket. Malik, who bowled 3.4 overs, conceded 30. He picked up a wicket. Mushtaq bowled seven overs, including a maiden. He conceded 14, picking up a wicket.

Afridi, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 34. He picked up a wicket. Zahid bowled 6.2 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 20, picking up two wickets. Javed bowled seven overs, including a maiden. He conceded 22, picking up a couple of wickets.

Pakistan led the five-match series 2-1.
