Dravid leads; Pakistan beat India

India made three changes to their playing eleven – Sourav Ganguly, Murali Kartik and Ashish Nehra made way for Dinesh Mongia, Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble. Pakistan – whose coach, Bob Woolmer, was born in Kanpur – (Moham)made a couple of changes to the eleven that last playing the Indians – Sami and Danish Kaneria made way for Rao Iftikhar Anjum and Arshad Khan.

On winning the toss, Rahul Dravid, India’s skipper, chose to bat. Tendulkar, who faced 10 balls, scored a run. Seventeen ballS(ach)into the match, he was caught by Kamran Akmal. Naved-ul-Hasan broke the 10-run stand. Virender Sehwag, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Ten balls later, Naved broke the one-run stand.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, whose 16-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Younis Khan. Naved broke the run-a-ball stand. India scored 50 off 12.4 overs. Yuvraj Singh, whose 33-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 18. Fifty-six balls later, Abdul Razzaq broke the 33-run stand.

While India scored 100 off 27.4 overs, they scored 150 off 36.5 overs. Mohammad Kaif, whose 88-ball innings included nine boundaries, scored 78. His half-century – which included five boundaries – came off 64 balls. A hundred and fifty-seven balls later, he was caught by the substitute, Mohammad Hafeez. Razzaq broke the 135-run partnership.

India scored 200 off 43.3 overs. The sixth-wicket pair put on 54. Rahul Dravid, whose 115-ball innings included eight boundaries, scored 86. His half-century – which included five boundaries – came off 85 balls. Forty-four balls later, Anjum and Akmal ran him out.

Mongia, whose 28-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 33. He was unbeaten, as was Zaheer Khan, who faced a ball, scoring a run. Pakistan conceded 16 extras. India scored 249 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 50 overs.

Shoaib Malik, who bowled five wicketless overs, conceded 34. Shahid Afridi, the player of the match, bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs, conceding 33. Arshad bowled nine wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 40.

Anjum bowled 10 wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 46. Razzaq bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 51, picking up a couple of wickets. Naved bowled 10 overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 35, picking up three scalps.

While Pakistan scored 50 off 4.5 overs, they scored 100 off 10.4 overs. Afridi, whose 46-ball innings included 10 boundaries and nine sixes, scored 102. While his half-century – which included five boundaries and as many sixes – scored 20 balls, his ton came off 45 balls. Eighty-six balls later, Harbhajan Singh broke the 131-run partnership.

Salman Butt, whose 46-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 21. Eight balls later, he was trapped (Kumb)leg before wicket by the leggie, who broke the four-run stand.

Pakistan scored 150 off 20.5 overs. Mohammad Yousuf, whose 50-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 24. Ninety-three balls later, he was caught by Kaif. Kumble broke the 58-run partnership.

Pakistan scored 200 off 32.4 overs. Malik, whose 60-ball innings included nine boundaries and a six, scored 41. Twenty-seven balls later, he was caught by Khan. Tendulkar broke the 23-run stand. Inzamam-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s skipper, scored 24. His 33-ball innings included three boundaries. He was unbeaten.

Younis Khan, whose 20-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 24. Thirty-five balls later, Sehwag broke the 32-run stand. Pakistan scored 250 off 42.1 overs. Razzaq, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

India scored 16 extras. Pakistan, who scored 252 for the loss of five wickets off 42.1 overs, won by five wickets with 47 balls to spare. Mongia, who bowled 4.1 wicketless overs, conceded 40. Balaji, who bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs, conceded 51. Khan bowled seven wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 35.

Sehwag, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded four. He picked up a wicket. Tendulkar, who bowled three overs, conceded 20. He picked up a wicket. Harbhajan, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 43. He picked up a wicket. Kumble bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 54, picking up a couple of wickets.

The Pakistanis led the six-match series 3-2.
