It was India’s
first One-day International for the 2004/05 season. They made a couple of
changes to their playing eleven – Rohan Gavaskar and Ajit Agarkar made way for Sachin
Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan.
Pakistan made three changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Yasir Hameed, Imran Farhat and Moin Khan made way for Salman Butt, Younis Khan and Kamran Akmal.

Yuvraj Singh, whose 62-ball innings included 10 boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 78. His 50 – which included five boundaries and both the sixes – came off 44 balls. Thirty-three balls later, he was caught by Younis. Naved-ul-Hasan broke the 53-run stand.
Mohammad Kaif, who faced 11 balls, scored 14. He was unbeaten, as was Irfan Pathan, who didn’t face a ball. Pakistan conceded 24 extras. India scored 292 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 50 overs. Mohammad Sami and Shoaib Malik bowled half-a-dozen wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 51, the latter conceded 31.

Younis, who faced eight balls, didn’t get off the mark. Twenty balls into the chase, he was caught by Sehwag. Zaheer broke the 15-run stand.
