Dravid leads; India are (Pakist)annihilated

India, who were playing their last One-day International for the 2004/05 season, made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Lakshmipathy Balaji and Anil Kumble made way for Ajit Agarkar and Ashish Nehra. Pakistan made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s skipper, chose to bat. Salman Butt, who faced 10 balls, scored three. Three overs into the match, he was caught by Virender Sehwag. Zaheer Khan broke the 28-run stand.

Pakistan scored 50 off 5.2 overs. Shahid Afridi, whose 23-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six, scored 44. Thirty-eight balls later, he was caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Ashish Nehra broke the 40-run stand.

While Pakistan scored 100 off 15 overs, they scored 150 off 25.2 overs. The third-wicket pair put on 85. Mohammad Yousuf, whose 59-ball (Sach)innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 50. A hundred balls later, Tendulkar ran him out.

Shoaib Malik, the player of the match, scored 72. His 87-ball innings included eight boundaries. His 50 – which included half-a-dozen boundaries – came off 59 balls. Fifty balls later, Agarkar broke the 38-run stand.

While Pakistan scored 200 off 37 overs, they scored 250 off 44.2 overs. Younis Khan, whose 42-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 40. Seventy-eight balls later, he was caught by Nehra, who broke the 91-run partnership.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Abdul Razzaq, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Sehwag off the bowling of Nehra. Inzamam, whose 69-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 68. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Agarkar broke the 12-run stand.

Kamran Akmal, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored five. Four balls later, Agarkar broke the nine-run stand. Naved-ul-Hasan, whose three-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored nine. He was unbeaten.

India conceded 12 extras. Pakistan scored 303 for the loss of eight wickets off 50 overs. Tendulkar, who faced five wicketless overs, conceded 24. Dinesh Mongia, who bowled seven wicketless overs, conceded 40. Harbhajan Singh, who bowled nine wicketless overs, conceded 39.

Zaheer Khan, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 65. He picked up a wicket. Agarkar, who bowled nine overs, conceded 58. He picked up three scalps, as did Nehra, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 72.

Sehwag, whose 26-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 21. Thirty-eight balls into the chase, he was caught by Afridi. Naved broke the 31-run stand. Tendulkar, who faced 15 balls, scored nine. Five balls later, Rao Iftikhar Anjum broke the run-a-ball stand.

India scored 50 off 10.4 overs. The third-wicket pair put on 28. Rahul Dravid, whose 29-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 19. Thirty-five balls later, Yousuf ran him out.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 20. Yuvraj Singh, whose 17-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 13. Thirty-five balls later, Yousuf ran him out. Dhoni, whose 38-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 24. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Afridi. Arshad Khan broke the nine-run stand.

Mohammad Kaif, who faced 11 balls, scored four. Seven balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Razzaq, who broke the one-run stand. The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Mongia, who faced four balls, didn’t open his account. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Younis off the bowling of Arshad.

India scored 100 off 23.4 overs. Agarkar, whose 26-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 16. Fifty-two balls later, he was caught by Yousuf. Afridi broke the 35-run stand. Harbhajan, whose 43-ball innings included a boundary, scored 20. He was unbeaten.

Zaheer, whose run-a-ball innings included a six, (Ars)had no reason to be in seventh heaven – eleven balls later, he was caught by Younis. The offie broke the 10-run stand. Nehra, who faced nine balls, scored a run. Three overs later, he was caught by the substitute, Mohammad Hafeez. Afridi broke the five-run stand.

Pakistan conceded 10 extras. India, who scored 144 off 37 overs, lost by 159 runs. Malik, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded two. Naved, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 28. He picked up a wicket.

Anjum, who bowled seven overs, conceded 32. He picked up a wicket. Razzaq bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 33, picking up a wicket. Afridi, who bowled four overs, conceded 10. He picked up a couple of wickets. Arshad bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 33, picking up three scalps.

Pakistan won the six-match series 4-2.
