Loss to Pakistan D(bon)isappoints India

India made just one change to their playing eleven – Yuvraj Singh made way for Gautam Gambhir.

Pakistan made seven changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Salman Butt, Nasir Jamshed, Misbah-ul-Haq, Abdur Rauf, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Sohail Tanvir and Rao Iftikhar Anjum (Moham)made way for Imran Nazir, the Akmal brothers (Kamran and Umar), Shoaib Malik (the player of the match), Naved-ul-Hasan, Umar Gul and Amir.

On winning the toss, Younis Khan, Pakistan’s skipper, chose to bat. Nazir, whose 17-ball innings included a boundary, scored 20. Twenty-six balls into the match, he was caught by Harbhajan Singh. Ashish Nehra broke the 29-run stand.

Pakistan scored 50 off seven overs (43 balls). India had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Kamran, whose 22-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 19. Twenty-seven balls after Nazir's dismissal, Nehra broke the 24-run stand.

The second Powerplay of Pakistan's innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. Younis, whose 33-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 20. Thirty-five balls after Kamran's dismissal, he was caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper. R P Singh broke the 12-run stand.

Eighty-eight balls into the match, the first drinks break was taken. Pakistan had scored 65 for the loss of three wickets at that point. Malik was batting on three.

The third Powerplay of Pakistan's innings was between the 45th and the 50th over. The fourth-wicket pair put on 200 off 190 balls. While Malik’s contribution to the partnership was 109, Yousuf’s contribution to it was 83. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was nine.

Yousuf, whose 88-ball innings included seven boundaries, eventually scored 87. A hundred and eighty-eight balls after Younis' dismissal, Nehra broke the 206-run partnership. Shahid Afridi, who faced a couple of balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. An over later, he was caught by Dhoni. Needless to say, Yusuf Pathan was in seventh heaven.

Umar Akmal, who faced a ball, D(hon)idn’t get off the mark. Five balls later, he was caught behind. Nehra broke the 11-run stand. Naved, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. He was unbeaten.

Pakistan scored 300 off 48.5 overs (301 balls). India had conceded 13 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded. Malik, whose 126-ball innings included 16 boundaries, eventually scored 128. Seven balls later, he was caught by Pathan. Harbhajan broke the 11-run stand.

Gul, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the (Shar)mark. Three balls later, he was caught by Suresh Raina. Ishant broke the one-run stand. Amir, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Virat Kohli. Sharma broke the one-run stand. Saeed Ajmal, who didn’t a ball, was unbeaten.

Pakistan scored 302 for the loss of nine wickets off 50 overs. Kohli, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 21. R P bowled nine overs, including a maiden. He conceded 59, picking up a wicket.

Harbhajan and Pathan bowled 10 overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 71, the latter conceded 56. Sharma bowled eight overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 39, picking up a couple of scalps. Nehra, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 55. He picked up four scalps.

Tendulkar, whose 14-ball inningS(ach)included a boundary, scored eight. Twenty-five balls into the chase, he was caught by Kamran. Amir broke the 23-run stand.

Naved broke the five-run stand. Sharma, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of balls later, Naved broke the one-run stand.

Harbhajan, whose 22-ball innings included a boundary, scored 13. Five balls later, Ajmal broke the four-run stand. Nehra, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

Pakistan eventually conceded 22 extras. India, who were dismissed for 248 off 44.5 overs, lost by 54 runs. Malik bowled three overs, conceding 25. He was unbeaten, as was Gul, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceding 55.

Amir bowled eight overs, conceding 46. He picked up a couple of wickets. Ajmal bowled 8.5 overs, conceding 31. He picked up a couple of wickets. Naved bowled nine overs, conceding 48. He picked up a couple of wickets. Afridi bowled 10 overs, conceding 39. He picked up a couple of wickets.
