India win; Pakistan are D(hon)isappointed

While India made no changes to their playing eleven, Pakistan (Moham)made five changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Imran Nazir, Younis Khan, Yousuf, Naved-ul-Hasan and Umar Gul made way for Salman Butt, Imran Farhat, Umar Amin, Abdul Razzaq and Shoaib Akhtar.

On winning the toss, Shahid Afridi, Pakistan’s skipper, chose to bat.

The second Powerplay of Pakistan’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. Their openers scored 50 off 11.2 overs (70 balls). India had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. While Butt's contribution to the partnership was 25, Farhat's contribution to it was 19.

Farhat, whose 46-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 25. Ninety-nine legal balls into the match, he was caught by Virender Sehwag. Harbhajan Singh broke the 71-run partnership.

It was at that point that the first drinks break was taken. Butt was batting on 40. His half-century – which included eight boundaries – came off 62 balls.

Pakistan scored 100 off 20.5 overs (127 balls). India had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 45 balls. While Butt's contribution to the partnership was 19, Shoaib Malik’s contribution to it was 31. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Malik, whose 46-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 39. Seventy-five balls after Farhat’s dismissal, Zaheer Khan broke the 73-run partnership. The third-wicket pair put on a couple. Butt, whose 85-ball innings includeD(ho)nine boundaries, eventually scored 74. Eleven balls later, Jadeja and Mahendra Singh, India’s skipper, (Ravind)ran him out.

Pakistan scored 150 off 30.5 overs (188 balls). The number of extras India had conceded gave them no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Amin, who faced nine balls, scored five. Seventeen balls later, he was caught by Virat Kohli. Harbhajan broke the 13-run stand.

Thirty-six overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. Pakistan had conceded 187 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Umar Akmal was batting on 16, Afridi was batting on 19.

The youngest of the Akmal brothers, whose 26-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 21. Twenty-nine balls after Amin's dismissal, he was caught by Dhoni. Jadeja broke the 37-run stand.

Pakistan scored 200 off 38.2 overs (234 balls). India had conceded nine extras at that point.

Afridi, whose 25-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, eventually scored 32. Thirty-seven balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Praveen Kumar, who broke the 23-run stand.

The third Powerplay of Pakistan’s innings was between the 46th and the 50th over.

Razzaq, who faced five balls, scored three. (Dho)Nine balls after Afridi's dismissal, he was caught behind. Kumar broke the eight-run stand. The eighth-wicket pair put on 20.

Mohammad Amir, who scored three, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 13 balls later, Rohit Sharma ran him out.

Pakistan scored 250 off 47.4 overs (290 balls). India had conceded nine extras at that point.

Kamran Akmal's half-century – which included a couple of boundaries and three sixes – came off 40 balls. He faced 41 balls, eventually scoring 51. Seven balls after Amir's dismissal, he was caught by Raina. Kumar broke the 18-run stand.

Akhtar, who faced five balls, scored three. He was unbeaten. Saeed Ajmal, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. Half-a-dozen balls after Kamran’s dismissal, he was caught by Nehra. Khan broke the two-run stand.

India eventually conceded 11 extras. Pakistan were dismissed for 267 off 49.3 overs. Sehwag bowled three overs, conceding 19. He was wicketless, as was Nehra, who bowled nine overs, conceding 58.

Jadeja bowled 10 overs, conceding 43. He picked up a wicket. Harbhajan bowled eight overs, conceding 47. He picked up two wickets, as did Khan, who bowled 9.3 overs, conceding 41. Kumar bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 53, picking up three scalps.

The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. Sehwag, whose 32-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Sixty-two balls into the chase, he was caught by Kamran. Razzaq broke the 47-run stand.

Fourteen overs into the chase, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 61 for the loss of a wicket at that point. While Gautam Gambhir, the player of the match, was batting on 33, Kohli was batting on 11.

Gambhir’s half-century – which included five boundaries – came off 51 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 65 balls. While Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership was 24, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 25. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Thirty-four overs into the chase, the second drinks break was taken. India had conceded 167 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership was 83, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 44.

Dhoni’s half-century – which included a couple of boundaries and a six – came off 53 balls.

Gambhir, whose 97-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six, eventually scored 83. A hundred and eight balls after Kohli’s dismissal, Ajmal broke the 98-run partnership.

India scored 200 off 39 overs (239 balls). Pakistan had conceded 17 extras at that point.

Sharma, whose 24-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 22. Thirty-four balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Afridi, who broke the 28-run stand.

Dhoni, whose 71-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, eventually scored 56. Half-a-dozen balls later, Malik broke the two-run stand.

The third Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 45th and the 49th over.

Jadeja, who faced nine balls, scored half-a-dozen. Seventeen balls after Dhoni’s dismissal, Ajmal broke the nine-run stand.

India scored 250 off 47.5 overs (295 balls). Pakistan had conceded 24 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 43. Raina, whose 27-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 34. Twenty-five balls into the match, the wicketkeeper (Kam)ran him out.

Harbhajan, whose 11-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 15. He was unbeaten, as was Kumar, who faced a couple of balls, scoring three.

India scored 271 for the loss of seven wickets off 49.5 overs, winning by three wickets with a ball to spare. Amir bowled 9.5 overs, conceding 56. He was wicketless, as was Akhtar, who bowled 10 overs, conceding 57.

Malik and Razzaq bowled five overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 28, the latter conceded 18.

Afridi bowled 10 overs, conceding 41. He picked up a wicket. Ajmal bowled 10 overs, conceding 56. He picked up three scalps.
