India are (Soura)vanquished by Pakistan

Neither India nor Pakistan made any changes to their playing elevens. On winning the toss, Moin Khan, the latter's skipper, chose to bat. Nazir, whose 18-ball I(mra)nnings included a boundary, scored 11. Five balls into the match, he was caught by Anil Kumble. Ajit Agarkar broke the 20-run stand.

Pakistan’s 50 came off 12.1 overs. Shahid Afridi, whose 41-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 28. Forty-six (Sa)balls later, he was stumped by Karim. Kumble broke the 35-run stand.

Pakistan’s 100 came off 22.1 overs. Younis Khan, whose 66-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 44. Ninety-three ballS(uni)later, he was caught by Mohammad Azharuddin. Joshi broke the 66-run partnership.

Inzamam-ul-Haq, one of the two players of the match, scored 121. His 113-ball innings included nine boundaries and five sixes. He was unbeaten, as was Mohammad Yousuf, who scored 56. His 64-ball innings included five boundaries and a six.

While the former's century, which included seven boundaries and all the sixes, came off 97 balls, the latter’s 50, which included four boundaries and the six, came off 60 balls.

India conceded a dozen extras. Pakistan scored 272 for the loss of three wickets off 50 overs. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, India’s skipper, bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former conceded 11, the latter conceded four. Venkatesh Prasad, who bowled 10 wicketless overs, conceded 63.

Singh bowled 10 wicketless overs, (Rob)including a maiden. He conceded 34. Kumble, who bowled nine overs, conceded 66. He picked up a wicket. Joshi bowled nine overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 42, picking up a wicket. Agarkar, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 50. He picked up a wicket.

Although Ganguly's 12-ball innings included a boundary, he had no reason to be in seventh heaven – four overs into the chase, he was caught by Waqar Younis, the other player of the match, who broke the 12-run stand. Tendulkar, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Five balls later, Wasim Akram broke the eight-run stand.

Joshi, who faced eight balls, scored three. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Moin. Waqar broke the five-run stand. Rahul Dravid, whose 46-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 29. Seventy balls later, he was caught by Moin. Shoaib Akhtar broke the 38-run stand.

Azharuddin, whose 46-ball innings included a boundary, scored 20. Thirty-six balls later, he was caught by Moin. Waqar broke the 27-run stand. Ajay Jadeja, whose 26-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 20. Twenty-one balls later, Waqar broke the nine-run stand.

Karim, who faced 29 balls, scored 13. Fifty-five balls later, he was caught by Younis. Arshad Khan broke the 32-run stand. Singh, whose 49-ball innings included a boundary, scored 22. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Moin. Arshad broke the six-run stand.

Agarkar, who faced 37 balls, scored 20. Fifty-five balls later, Waqar broke the 35-run stand. Kumble, who bowled 29 balls, scored 14. He was unbeaten, as was Prasad, who faced three balls, and didn’t open his account.

Pakistan conceded 16 extras. India, who scored 174 for the loss of nine wickets off 50 overs, lost by 98 runs. Nazir, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded a couple. Younis, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 17.

Abdul Razzaq bowled five wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 29. Afridi, who bowled eight wicketless overs, conceded 21. Akhtar, who bowled five overs, conceded 24. He picked up a wicket.

Akram bowled seven overs, including a couple of maidens. He conceded 16, picking up a wicket. Arshad, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 32. He picked up a couple of wickets. Waqar bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 31, picking up five scalps.
