Rain is the sPoIlSpoRT again

India made no changes to their playing eleven. Pakistan made three changes to theirs – Ijaz Ahmed, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Kabir Khan made way for Hasan Raza, Mohammad Hussain and Mohammad Akram.

On winning the toss, Tendulkar, India’s skipper, (Sach)inserted the Pakistanis. Saeed Anwar, whose 84-ball innings included eight boundaries and a six, scored 74. He was unbeaten. Shahid Afridi, whose 46-(Sa)ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 47. He was caught by Karim. Harvinder Singh broke the 71-run stand.

The second-wicket pair had put on 85 when Rameez Raja, Pakistan’s skipper, retired hurt. He scored 74. His 58-ball innings included 34. Saleem Malik, who faced three balls, scored a run. Sourav Ganguly broke the two-run stand. Raza, who faced five balls, scored a run. He was caught by Ganguly, who broke the 11-run stand.

India conceded 12 extras. Pakistan scored 169 for the loss of three wickets off 31.5 overs. Robin Singh, who bowled three overs, conceded 16. He was wicketless, as was Tendulkar, who bowled four overs, conceding 17.

Abey Kuruvilla, who bowled half-a-dozen overs, conceded 30. He was wicketless, as was Debasis Mohanty, who bowled eight overs, including a maiden. He conceded 44. Harvinder, who bowled three overs, conceded 22. He picked up a wicket. Ganguly bowled 7.5 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 39, picking up a couple of wickets.

The match was abandoned due to rain. India was leading the five-match series 2-0.
