India leave the Pakistanis D(hon)isheartened

India made just one change to their playing eleven –Dinesh Karthik made way for Gautam Gambhir. Pakistan (Moham)made four changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Yasir Hameed, Imran Nazir, Abdul Razzaq and Asif made way for Salman Butt, Misbah-ul-Haq, Abdur Rehman and Umar Gul.

On winning the toss, Shoaib Malik, Pakistan’s skipper, chose to bat. The second Powerplay of Pakistan’s innings was between the 11th and the 15th over. Kamran Akmal, whose 30-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored a dozen. Sixty-one balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Irfan Pathan, who broke the 44-run stand.

Pakistan scored 50 off 12.2 overs. India had conceded a couple of extras at that point. The third Powerplay of Pakistan’s innings was between the 16th and the 20th over.

Seventeen overs into the match, the first drinks break was taken. Pakistan had scored 67 for the loss of one wicket at that point. While Butt was batting on 48, Younis Khan was batting on four.

Butt’s half-century – which included eight boundaries – came off 56 balls. He eventually faced 57 balls. Forty-six balls after Akmal’s dismissal, Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni – India’s skipper and the player of the match – ran him out.

Pakistan scored 100 off 28.3 overs. India had conceded five extras at that point. Younis, who faced 58 balls, eventually scored 25. A hundred and forty-four balls later, he was caught by Pathan. Harbhajan Singh broke the 35-run stand.

Thirty-five overs into the match, the second drinks break was taken. Pakistan had scored 137 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Mohammad Yousuf was batting on 22, Shahid Afridi was batting on 20.

Pakistan scored 150 off 37.1 overs. India had conceded seven extras at that point. The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off as many balls. While Yousuf’s contribution to the partnership was 25, Afridi’s contribution to it was 23. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Afridi, whose 32-ball (Sach)innings included a boundary and a six, scored 31. Fifty-four balls later, he was stumped by Dhoni. Tendulkar broke the 58-run partnership. Malik, who faced eight balls, scored a couple. Nine balls later, he was caught by Gambhir. Tendulkar broke the two-run stand.

Yousuf’s half-century – which included three boundaries – came off 70 balls. Pakistan scored 200 off 45.4 overs. India had conceded eight extras at that point. The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 42 balls. While Yousuf’s contribution to the partnership was 31, Misbah’s contribution to it was 18. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was one.

Misbah, whose 26-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 27. Fifty-four balls later, he was caught by Harbhajan. Zaheer Khan broke the 68-run partnership. The seventh-wicket pair put on half-a-dozen. Rehman, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls later, Dhoni ran him out.

Yousuf, whose 88-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 82. He was unbeaten. India conceded 10 extras. Pakistan scored 239 for the loss of seven wickets off 50 overs. Murali Kartik, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 36. He was wicketless, as was R P Singh, who bowled eight overs, including a maiden. He conceded 42.

Pathan bowled eight overs, including a couple of boundaries. He conceded 45, picking up a wicket. Zaheer, who bowled nine overs, conceded 50. He picked up a wicket. Harbhajan, who bowled 10 overs, conceded 29. He picked up a wicket. Tendulkar, who bowled five overs, conceded 32. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Although his runs came by way of a boundary, Tendulkar had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just four. Seventeen balls into the chase, he was trapped leg before wicket by Shoaib Akhtar, who broke the 14-run stand.

India scored 50 off eight overs. Pakistan had conceded 10 extras at that point. The second Powerplay of India’s innings was between the ninth and the 14th over. The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 53 balls. While Sourav Ganguly’s contribution to the partnership was 24, Gambhir’s contribution to it was 22. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was five.

Fourteen overs into the chase, the first drinks break was taken. India had scored 81 for the loss of one wicket at that point. While Ganguly was batting on 36, Gambhir was batting on 30.

The third Powerplay of India’s innings was between the 16th and the 20th over. The second-wicket pair put on 82. Ganguly, whose 55-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six, scored 39. Eighty-four balls later, Butt and Akmal ran him out.

India scored 100 off 17 overs. Pakistan had conceded 11 extras at that point. Gambhir, whose 51-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 44. Twenty-five balls later, Afridi broke the 17-run stand.

India scored 150 off 29 overs. Pakistan had conceded 14 extras at that point. Thirty-one overs into the chase, the second drinks break was taken. India had scored 156 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Dhoni was batting on 30, Yuvraj was batting on 25.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 72 balls. While the contribution of the man from Ranchi to the partnership was (Dho)nineteen, Yuvraj’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

India scored 200 off 40.2 overs. Pakistan had conceded 16 extras at that point. While Yuvraj’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 66 balls, Dhoni’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries – came off 68 balls.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 100 off 131 balls. While Dhoni’s contribution to the partnership was 37, Yuvraj’s contribution to it was 58. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was five.

Yuvraj, whose 74-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Twenty-two overs after Gambhir’s (Afri)dismissal, he was caught by the man nicknamed Boom Boom. Rehman broke the 105-run partnership.

Dhoni, whose 77-ball innings included eight boundaries, eventually scored 63. Seven balls later, he was caught by Akmal. Akhtar broke the run-a-ball stand. Uthappa, whose run-a-ball (Rob)innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. He was unbeaten, as was Pathan, who scored five. His eight-ball innings included a boundary.

Pakistan eventually conceded 18 extras. India, who scored 242 for the loss of five wickets off 50 overs, won by five wickets with three overs to spare.

Malik bowled four wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 15. Gul bowled seven wicketless overs, including two maidens. He conceded 26. Rao Iftikhar Anjum bowled eight wicketless overs, conceding 50.

Rehman bowled 10 overs, including a maiden. He conceded 54, picking up a wicket. Afridi bowled 10 overs, conceding 34. He picked up a wicket. Akhtar bowled eight overs, conceding 52. He picked up two scalps.

India led the five-match series 1-0.
